Come and learn traditional Wado-Ryu karate from very experienced instructors Chris Gardner and Andy Payce and overseen by head instructor Sensei Nick Quilliam. These sessions have been running for over 30 years! Classes are every Thursday 6pm-7pm or till 7:30pm when you become more advanced.
We usually start with basics which are foundation moves of karate. These include different kinds of stances, punches and kicks. We then move on to Kata – which are set choreographed patterns of karate moves, targeting virtual opponents. We may follow with partner work, wrestling or sparring practice.

Our students have the option of taking grades when they are ready. Starting from 9th Kyu or white belt, they can learn and become proficient all the way to 1st Kyu which is brown belt with 2 black tags.

Talking to current students, they all had different aspects of the class that they enjoyed the most. A couple of them found the wrestling to be great fun, while others preferred the challenge of practicing kata.

When asked how the classes made them feel, one of the girls said: “Really strong!” A young boy who has only started recently said: ” I find the whole class fun.” One of the older boys said “Doing kata made him feel awesome.”

Please do get in touch if you’d like to join. No upfront fees and pay as you go. The first class is free!!
